Classical Spanish music has had a big influence on the music traditions in Mexico, which range far beyond mariachi. Classical music in Mexico and in the Americas has been terribly under-represented for decades. That is the who point of creating the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas and the Music Festival of the Americas, in order to showcase the huge collection of composers who have put out tremendous works and not received the impact and promotion that they deserve.

Music from the double album "My Mexican Soul", by Alondra de la Parra, will be featured in performances at the Music Festival of the Americas this year, accompanied by Spanish classical guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas. Music from Mexican composers Ricardo Castro, Gustavo E. Campa, Jose Pablo Moncayo and Arturo Marquez will also be featured.
